This article was a very interesting read. It talked about how American Express, and many other companies choose to hire smokers. My first thought said this is discrimination. It is off-putting to know that you can be disqualified on a job that you may very well be qualified for because of what you choose to do recreationally. The article compared this form of discrimination to the discrimination mothers experience when they choose to expand their family. Although I don’t think the two forms of discrimination are comparable, both seem quite unfair. Let’s consider things from a business standpoint. It is always the goal to keep liability as low as possible. This is a broad task, but it is quite necessary to the success of a company.
